Welcome to KORE Rehab! This is a platform we are hoping will allow us to bring a practical approach to rehab with research and evidence for all types of practitioners. It doesn’t matter whether you are a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Kinesiologist or a student, as our goal is to provide a resource for you to help your clients rehab faster and more effectively.
With more and more practitioners coming out with their own innovative and evidence based ideas, techniques and approaches we want to sift through the rift raft and cut the crap and try to give everyone the best clinical and practical approach to rehab. That doesn’t mean we don’t put stock in evidence based research, but rather, we want to look at all aspects of rehab even if the research isn’t there.

For every technique or approach we look at, there is evidence that both supports and refutes it. Research is often presented to show that a specific treatment is effective in 80% of the patients in the study; but, what about the other 20%? What if the client I am treating falls into the other 20%? What do I do tell that patient? Do I tell them, “this works 80% of the time, but it didn’t for you”. Or if research shows that the treatment was only effective in 20% of patients, do I not use that technique just because it doesn’t have “strong evidence”? Again, what if my patient is in that 20%.
Sometimes the treatment we provide works because, frankly, sometimes random stuff just works. It’s not because some study in a lab with random double blind test subjects say it works. So if I do something in practice with a client and I don’t know why it works, but it works, well guess what? I am going to continue practicing that technique as long as it keeps working.
I’m sure I can bullshit my way around why it works. But sometimes that is just what it is: bullshit that works.

There will be a lot of people who won’t agree with “going against” strong research and evidence based practice. But like we said above, we are not going against evidence based practice, we are just looking at the other side of that evidence. As clinicians, we can’t just not look at the evidence involved, but we also can’t go against our clinical judgement either.
Our clients aren’t just “n” subjects in a research paper, or just a condition we treat based on a textbook or course we took. They are patients with complex biomechanics, with variable anatomy structure, with differing levels of neural input and output and most of all with personalities, beliefs and values.
We can not use a cookie-cutter approach to rehab. We need to see what treatment plan is best suited for that particular individual. It is always valuable to know the research and evidence behind it, but it isn’t always the be all and end all of treatment plans and rehab approaches.
Our goal at KORE rehab is not only to bridge the gap between clinical relevance and research, but also to try and stimulate thought and create discussion around various topics and rehab philosophies.
We hope to bring our ideas to you through blogs, podcasts, videos, resources and courses (in the near future!). We want to bring a mix of good evidence based practice with some clinical relevance of stuff that “just works”!
